Amazon
Amazon and Snap have teamed up to offer eyewear consumers a virtual try on experience. Specifically, customers will be able to try on sunglasses, reading glasses and seasonal glasses. These are the first of many VTO Shopping Lenses that will be available to Snap users.
In addition, consumers can check out the 3D asset technology that Amazon and Snap have incorporated into their lenses. This augmented reality feature will allow shoppers to view the same eyewear models they are familiar with.
The new collaboration also means shoppers can expect an improved mobile experience. The Amazon Fashion app will be a one-stop shop for eyewear. It will feature thousands of eyewear items from popular brands including Costa Del Mar, Oakley and Ray-Ban. Plus, consumers can try on hundreds of styles in real time.
One of the main benefits of this new partnership is the ability for consumers to try on the latest and greatest in eyewear. Previously, Amazon’s AR shopping experience was limited to shoes, but now customers can try on eyewear styles from the likes of Ray-Ban and Maui Jim. Additionally, customers can purchase sunglasses and reading glasses directly from Amazon.
Aside from announcing the new eyewear based collaboration, Amazon also announced that its customers have ordered over a billion fashion items from its mobile devices in the past year. In the future, the two companies plan to expand the joint Virtual Try on Shopping Lenses to other categories.
Google Glass
Google has been working on AR eyewear for some time. At the recent Google I/O 2022 conference, the company showed off a few prototype glasses that it will be testing soon.
The prototype glasses have a number of features. One of them is a camera that can take photos. Another is a touchscreen.

In addition to its own camera and video capabilities, Ray-Ban Stories features a built-in microphone, speakers, and two-way Bluetooth audio. To begin recording, you’ll need to click a button on the frame, a process that’s easy enough to repeat on demand. You’ll hear a beep noise to let you know it’s starting up. After a thirty-second recording, the camera will automatically stop.
Ray-Ban Stories are available in four styles. They range from a simple pair of sunglasses to the super-iconic Meteor. Several lens combinations are available, as well. These include polarized, clear, gradient, and prescription lenses.
